The boundaries of Chungathara Grama Panchayat are as follows:
North: Tamil Nadu State and Muppainad Panchayat
East: Tamil Nadu State, Edakkara Panchayat, and Vazhikkadavu Panchayat
South:Chaliyar, Pothukal Panchayat, Urangattiri Panchayat, and Koodaranji Panchayat
West:Koodaranji Panchayat, Thiruvambady Panchayat, and Muppainad Panchayat
According to its physiographic characteristics, Chungathara Panchayat is located in the highland (hilly) region. The major crops cultivated in the Panchayat are paddy, coconut, rubber, and arecanut.
One of Kerala’s major rivers, the Chaliyar River, flows through the Panchayat, along with the Punnapuzha and Pandipuzha rivers. The Panchayat has 90 ponds, which serve as important water resources.
For drinking water, residents depend on 80 public wells and 107 public drinking-water taps. Under irrigation schemes, the Panchayat has around eight canals, including the Manali Lift Irrigation Canal and the Kottepadam Lift Irrigation Canal.
The major hills in the Panchayat are Kurathimala, Andikunnu, and Perumpoyil Hill. Approximately 10% of the total area of Chungathara Panchayat is covered by forest land.
